I've always been resistant to buying brandname accessories because the after-market is flooded with cheaper alternatives. In this case though, I bought the Motorola Navigation Mount for my Bionic and feel that it was well worth the expense.

Previous to getting my Bionic I had considered buying a new GPS device. With my phone and this mount, I will never need stand-alone GPS again. With the Droid's native Google applications, the maps are updated and more accurate and can be accessed via voice command!

When docking your Bionic in this mount, the phone automatically changes the user-interface and enters Mobile Dock mode with big, easy to find preset buttons for maps, voice search, dialing and any other app you have installed that you want to add to the interface.

My car has 1/16" (headphone) jack input. This mount comes with a compatible cable that plugs in at the cigarette lighter adapter and runs the phone's audio through the car's audio aux input. With apps like iHeartRadio and Pandora I've been able to cancel my satellite radio subscription!

As an added bonus, the mount does not cover up the camera lens and I find it fun (albeit a bit dorky) to use the camcorder app on my phone to record my real-time driving. You could use the front-facing camera to skype too, but I presume that wouldn't be safe so I'm not recommending it ;-)

I've had this mounted on my windshield for a couple months now and I cradle my phone in it just about every day (its a great charger too, even if I'm not using the phone). In all that time, the mount has yet to fall off the window or need to be readjusted.

I've very happy with this purchase and recommend the Motorola Navigation Mount to anyone with a Bionic phone (and a car)

The Retina-Like GPS. Superb, Lightweight, Just Great!!!

The only negative with this GPS is that the user's booklet doesn't give very much information. The manual on disk is a "4" on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the best). However, the GPS is easy to use and most of the menu items are pretty much self-explanatory. Having the TOPO maps included is a big plus. If you were to buy the more inexpensive 450T and have to buy the maps for various regions you could easily spend far more to have maps for the entire U.S. than what this device costs. The scale is acceptable, the contour intervals are not as good as a USGS map of course, but you do have the option to purchase more detailed map (at at least $99 a "pop"). I've found that I don't really need that much detail. As a backpacker, I found setting a route using my own waypoints to be a great asset. I've also used this GPS for geocaching and it is pretty accurate. The camera is another plus, the detail is good enough unless you want to print an 8X10 photo. Downloading the photos was relatively simple and I was able to easily bring pictures into my Kodak Easyshare program as well as my Nikon program. Again as a backpacker I like to only take items with me that have more than one purpose (I use a frisbee as a dinner plate, but I have yet to find more than one use for my toothbrush). Anyway, I'm pleased with this GPS and reccommend it.

Garmin Carrying Approach Oregon Handheld

...Had a Garmin Hard Carrying Case for my Oregon 450t for several years; I'm completely pleased with it. The negative reviews have me puzzled. Perhaps the reviewers want something more compact. I find that the large size provides the kind of protection I wanted, plus it is easier to manipulate in an outdoor setting, especially with gloves on. I have used this product in all kinds of weather, dust, snow, rain and hard-knocks and it works perfectly. I really like the way it can be carabinered to the strap of a backpack so it can be flipped-open, the "on-off" button is easily accessed (another rationale for a large enclosure, by-the-way) and is at the perfect distance from my eyes for easy reading. This set-up is so good I would urge anyone using a pack that lacks an attachment on the shoulder strap to sew-on a d-ring to the packstrap on your "handed" side (right strap if you are right-handed, etc.) When hiking, cross-country skiing or hunting, this is incredibly handy.
